1 stage interview process, which will include a short writing task.
We are recruiting for our global client who are looking for an experienced digital journalist to help grow and shape the original lifestyle content created, with an emphasis on health, wellness and parenting, with a touch of celebrity related content.
To excel in this role you'll need:
- at least 3 years’ reporting experience in digital journalism, including a comprehensive knowledge of how to use a CMS and understand the importance of metadata, tagging, captions and audience insights to ensure our content performs at its best
- experience interviewing and sourcing stories with a sound understanding of media law
- some experience working with data and video
- an excellent understanding of the UK lifestyle landscape and an awareness of what topics audiences are interested in
- ideally to have a National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ) qualification or equivalent
The right person will be flexible, able to react quickly to trending lifestyle news and proactively prepare for considered, seasonal events and themes with guaranteed search interest. They’ll be looking to make their mark and take our client's lifestyle and parenting content to the next level, helping to build a distinctive voice with plenty of data-backed content pitches and ideas for franchises that could develop a loyal readership and have commercial value for potential brand partnerships. The ideal candidate will have worked on a lifestyle desk in a busy newsroom, covering everything from TikTok’s latest health fad to explainers on the UPFs to avoid. But, it’s parenting content that this writer will know inside and out - or be keen to focus on. The ONS’ annual baby names drop will be a firm fixture on their content plan as will cost-cutting ideas for families at Christmas, as examples.
Your daily responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):
- staying on top of the biggest lifestyle (in particular, parenting & health/wellbeing) news, pitching, writing and building trending and seasonal content daily
- writing the best original content possible that both complements and stands out from our client's third-party content, always with a focus on UK audiences.
- helping to develop innovative ways to tell stories through new format approaches.
- growing the off-net audience by working with your editor and our Audience team to make data-informed coverage and strategy decisions
- helping with pipeline content planning
