Together, we can #AccelerateAction on IWD and beyond

This year’s IWD 2025 campaign theme is 'Accelerate Action'.

According to the World Economic Forum ‘It will take 134 years to reach gender parity, according to the World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap Report 2024.’(WEF) Thus, it would take us around 5 generations from now to achieve full gender parity.

Despite the progress made over the years, gender inequality persists across various sectors. Women still face wage gaps, underrepresentation in leadership, and barriers to education and healthcare.  It is estimated that a collective investment of $360 billion per year would help achieve this gender parity, based on government spending.

Accelerating action means developing fast-track solutions to help eliminate systemic obstacles and ensure that equity is not a distant goal but an immediate priority.

How can we achieve this?

One of the first things we can collectively do is to support the organisations/charities that already exist and offer support to women and girls.

Organisations can positively impact this acceleration in many areas by:

• Securing and nurturing top talent
• Fostering women's financial empowerment
• Promoting gender equity in leadership, decision-making, and STEM careers
• Supporting women and girls in making educated health decisions
• Empowering women and girls through quality education and professional training
• Increasing women’s participation in politics and decision-making roles
• Challenging societal norms and biases that hinder women's progress
• Promoting gender-sensitive policies in workplaces, schools, and communities

While there will still be some significant challenges to gender equality, strategic actions and support can create positive change for women everywhere.

Emphasising the need to accelerate action, highlights the urgency of taking swift and decisive steps toward gender equality.
